Artesanía ugandesa ayudando a los niños de un orfanato en África

 

¡Queridos Amigos y Seguidores!

Algunos de ustedes saben que pasada primavera fui a Entebbe en Uganda para trabajar de voluntaria en Malayaka House – un orfanato – y para un colegio en la misma ciudad. Y saben que desde entonces he colaborado con Malayaka House aquí en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria coorganizando una fiesta solidaria con el fin de recaudar fondos para el orfanato.

Una de las cosas muy chulas que hicimos en el evento fue un mercadillo con artesanía ugandesa, que nos trajo Bea, la mujer maravillosa que dejó su vida en Madrid para cuidar de los niños de Malayaka House y que ahora es la encargada de esa casa de acogida, que acoge en este momento a más de 40 niños.

Aunque el mercadillo atraeó mucho interés y se vendieron muchas cosas, algunas quedaron y las tenemos en Gran Canaria. Así que, si les gustaría comprar algo hecho en Uganda y al mismo tiempo ayudar el orfanato, envíen me un mensaje a grancanaria.style@yahoo.com. Todo el beneficio está destinado para Malayaka House.

Ugandan crafts helping children from an orphanage there

Dear Friends and Followers

Some of you know that I’ve been collaborating with Malayaka House – an orphanage in Uganda for a few months, working there as a volunteer for a few months and later co-organising a charity event for them here in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. One of the cool things we did at the event was a stand with Ugandan handcrafts, brought to us by Bea, the wonderful woman who left her life in Madrid and is now in charge of the orphanage, looking after over 40 children.

Even though the stand raised a big interest and many things were sold, some of them were left and we keep them here in Gran Canaria. So if you’re interested in buying some African handcrafts and at the same time helping an orphanage, send me a message at grancanaria.style@yahoo.es.  All profits go to Malayaka House and help the children there. Cristina, Laura & Silvia

This week we are presenting three street-style looks of Canarian designers and taking this opportunity to say a few words about their brand Féétéé, another Canarian brand devoted to sustainable fashion.
Féétéé was created by three sisters: Cristina, Laura and Silvia, who became enchanted by the graphics of Africa during their journey to Gambia and later set up cooperation with Senegalese locals who dye fabrics in a traditional way, once upon a time widely spread in their part of the world but is now being slowly forgotten.

Esta semana presentamos street-style looks de tres diseñadoras Canarias y aprovechamos esta ocasión para decir unas palabras sobre su marca Féétéé, que es una marca canaria dedicada a moda sostenible más.
La marca fue creada por tres hermanas, Cristina, Laura y Silvia, quienes se encantaron por las telas africanas durante su viaje a Gambia i después iniciaron colaboración con Senegaleses quienes tinten telas en una manera tradicional, que en su tiempo era muy intrínseca en aquella parte del mundo, pero que hoy en día está siendo abandonada.

Long time no see… For a re-start, Giuliana, spotted at the the event Fashion&Fraiends 2014.

Fashion & Friends 2014: this year fashion in Gran Canaria had 30 000 friends. Yes! 30 000 people visited the event over its 3 days course. Congratulations!

Margarita

These shoes were hand-painted and bought in a boutique near the port of Las Palmas.

Margarita works in La Regenta art gallery – the stylish place to go this autumn and winter in Las Palmas GC. On September 26. they opened a new exhibition “Días de vinilo” – “Days of Vinyl” where you can see more than 800 vinyl covers elaborated between 1950s and 1980s. Some of them are real works of art created by such prominent artists as Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.

Free Hugs! Abrazos Gratis!

Las Friday in Parque San Telmo in Las Palmas we met a group of teenangers holding a banner reading “Free Hugs” and “Abrazos Gratis! Ilosiónate”. Asked about why they were holding it, they responded that nowadays too many people don’t receive enough affection. Everybody talks about crisis and doesn’t notice that around them are many people who feel lonely, need someone to talk to, to give them a little attention and affection. For that reason, they offer free hugs to anyone who needs them 🙂
Do we live in en economic or an emotional crisis?

Pasado viernes en Parque San Telmo en Las Palmas encontramos a un grupo de jovenes con un cartel que decía “Abrazos Gratis! Ilosiónate!” y “Free Hugs”. Una vez preguntados porqué lo estaban sujetando, respondieron que hoy en día haya mucha gente a quien le falte cariño. Todo el mundo hable sobre la crisis y no se de cuenta de que alrededor haya gente que se siente sola y necesite que alguien hable con ellos, les preste un poco atención y cariño. Por todo ello ofrecen abrazos a cada una que los necesite 🙂
